Powerless!!

We all would have never felt so much powerless as we are now!

Everywhere there is power cut, from a minimum of 4hrs to 18hrs! I really doubt if we are really going forward towards the super power India in 2020, when we cannot have power even for our daily chores at home!
Chennai used to have 1hr power cut every day and 8-9hrs once in a month for maintenance. I never understand if things are really maintained, why do so many areas still suffer from transformer problems?! They still have the power cut only that the naming is different now and they don’t know when they can have the power back!
The industries in and around Coimbatore are all locked up since the power cut is for 14hrs a day! Imagine their plight! Some people may argue that inverters are available; I would humbly remind them even inverters need power to get charged up! How much can one spend on generators?
Already, the monthly electricity charges have gone up even though we have power cuts. If we compare, we are paying nearly double as what we were paying last year and the catch is that we are using less electricity!
Instead of waiting for some Sharukh khan to generate power in our area as in the movie swades, we all can take this as a wake-up call and do something from our end to save the electricity.
As educated citizens, we can

  1. Turn off fans/lights when not in use
  2. Do not keep the TV/music system in stand by mode and turn them on only when needed
  3. Turn off the computer everyday at work before leaving the office!
  4. Do not use mobile phones unless its really important so that we don’t have to charge them often
  5. Finish cooking when natural light is available
We can also create awareness to use less light for the media shootings, in weddings, political party meetings instead of extensive lighting decorations so that emergency services like hospitals can work normally.
We can also get some tips from Gujarat and follow their steps. When one state can, every state can! They have installed solar power in their state and do not have the power shortage now.
This can work only too well for Tamilnadu as Sun is working over time all through the year, we can generate so much of solar power and utilize it in our day to day lives!
From last Monday, the power cuts have been increased to 2hrs from 1hr and we see so many people now supporting the Kudankulam plant! People are voting for the same in Face book!
People will make that politician powerful whoever promises to get us back the power!
