Priced Possession

Everybody wants their own share of it! All want to spend sometime with it, every day and no two people are ready to share! Dad wants the news, mom the reality shows, granny the serials, kids the cartoons, sis the latest songs, bro the cricket and end of the day, it gets too tired! Well, am talking about the TV, the darling of everybody, the indispensable member of the family!
They came in all sizes, from portable to large screens but were fat in the 80’s and due to everyone’s demand of it, it has reduced a lot and is sleek now and ranges from normal to LCD to LED. Everybody has a minimum of 2 television sets at home due to the non-sync among the family members.
It’s always controlled by its partner, the remote control and someone holds it at all times. The remote is always forgiving, how many ever times its dropped, it obediently responds to the master. It has become a close friend to everyone in the family and the person holding it is all powerful!
We don’t spend a day away from it and it does over-time on festival days! If only the hubby and the wifey spend sometime with each other, as they spend with the TV, there would be no quarrels!
Most grannies world revolves around it. They tell the time based on the serial relayed and it goes all through the day from morn to night! Though the story wouldn’t move much even if it is missed on a day, they won't budge! On the days of the cricket matches, the ladies stick together in protest! Every ball is followed closely and debated!
I know an elderly woman who felt bad that her serials are missed on the day of her cataract surgery and another woman felt bad that she missed her serials as she had to go out of station for some relative’s wedding!
The TV heaves a sigh of relief when there’s power cut. Those are its resting hours. Since set top box has become mandatory in few cities now, everyone has to plan for multiple connections for the same family.
A day without it would bring so many suspicions from the neighbors if all is well at home! That silence is bliss! When the Lord of death came to take someone away from Earth, the person said he is ready to come along only if there is a television in heaven! J
