Sleep!

Sleep!

Oh sleep, when I come to you
You go away from me!
When I don't want you,
You come easily!
Are you teaching me the philosophy
That when I let go, anything comes on it's own?

When I was a child, I wanted to play

My Sundays started earlier than the other days

I refused you when I was at home.
As I grew older, my responsibilities became more
I couldn't afford to sleep having so much to study!
As I finished school and college, my friends became my priority 
Talking to them or entertaining myself occupied more time
As I started to work, my appraisals and performance
Occupied my time
So many days, I woke with a start only to realise
I missed the alarm clock!

Courtship and wedding had so much to talk and do
We were ready to forgo you!
Life after wedding brought in many duties
And you weren't given so much of importance!

When I had babies, I couldn't sleep 
because of the little bundles kept moving
Posture itself was a great challenge and by the time
That was achieved, it was time to wake up!

After becoming a mother, everything looks so blurred
The previous life is a history and the everyday life is a mystery!
We keep running behind the kids,
Sometimes, running along
Until their goals are achieved!

Now, they are settled, I'm free now
I have Nothing much to be done
I can sleep all I want
But when I close my eyes, you're gone!

My nights are longer, some thoughts lingering
Leading to another train of thoughts
Probably, the last sleep forever will be my 
Satisfied sleep, in God's lap?
Thanking him for everything
And pleading him to be with me forever and ever!
