The drumstick gene!

The drumstick gene!

When I was a kid, I tasted this wonderful vegetable in my Granny's home during one summer vacation. My great grandmother, is the best cook who was so passionate about cooking. She would never hurry up and take everything in its pace. She would patiently stand in the hot kitchen and make everything. No compromise!

Around 10:30-11:00, they served brunch and I had this drumstick sambar! Wow! Heaven!! Like someone who had never tasted such a dish, I fell in complete love with it. Whenever she asked me what to make, I would say drumstick sambar! She would smile and so did my mother and my grandmother! From then on, every vacation, I would look forward to go to Granny's home.

My love for this, is known to all at my Grandmother's and even my mami used to pull my legs after wedding, even now, is that your favorite?! I would smile and move away. What she doesn't know is that even my hubby likes it :)

Now, that we have twins, I couldn't eat that vegetable for sometime as it would affect kids. Once nursing was stopped, I really felt better that I could eat whatever I wanted! I started to enjoy eating all that wasn't allowed.

When kids could eat rice, I would mash sambar rice and along with it the drumstick too and both of them liked to eat it. Now, our daughter loves it so much that she insists that drumstick sambar to be made at least twice a week. She's not a big fan of sambar as such but she loves drumstick! She always makes me give it to her in a cup. My son doesn't like to touch it, take the pulp, but happy to eat if its fed!

So, here continues the legacy, the drumstick gene.
