Fallback!
As a result of lock down, it is common now that kids attend online classes. We have to arrange the meeting giving in the id, password and making sure our kids are seated properly, their posture, with their books, pencils, etc..
It was not a surprise to me when I see few parents sat along for the call, some facing the camera and others away from it. One of the classes, the teacher didn't allow the parents or the siblings to face the camera which means they can still stay in the same room!
In one of the classes, I sat along my 6 year old, as I was free that day but then it made me think! What will I do for the other kid and for how many classes can I do this?! So, I moved out silently.
After the class when I asked him, he missed out on few points and was looking at me as if I'll fill in. I was quiet for one, I didn't know what happened and two, even if I knew, what was he doing instead of paying attention. So I said, these classes are your responsibility and jotting down or writing down is your job. I'm not going to check in whatsapp group! If you miss, you face your teachers!
I'm not a fallback option! I don't want them to know that Mom will help even if I miss. So I said, you're Arjuna, you face it. I'll be a guide like Krishna, that is all. I'll not pull the bow on your behalf!
This is not a favor, its their duty! Obviously we aren't allowed inside classroom, so why now? Kids should also have their space with their teachers and friends and should not feel we are there everywhere!
The earlier the parents, especially the moms realise this cushioning won't help our kids, our kids will grow into responsible human beings.
If someone feels they are still little ones, then I don't think so! School wouldn't give such a responsibility to the children which they cannot handle! The system is that we implant that confidence in them that they can! Challenges make us and not break us! Kids are smart and will find a way out.
Nondoing is also a very important aspect of parenting.
