On Time, Every time!

I never understand why does not anyone respect time? How can 6.15 pm and 6.30 pm be the same? Is it not shameful to say IST is called “Indian Stretchable Time”. Why do we all take other person’s time for granted? How can we ever overlook the importance of time?

Its seeded in us from the childhood. While going for classes, it’s okay if you are late by 5 minutes, Its okay if you are late to school by 5 minutes. Arre! It’s okay yar, you are not sending any rocket to space! Whats the big deal of being late to work by 10 minutes?

For heaven’s sake, please respect time! 6.30 and 6.35 cannot be the same!

We get angry if someone makes us wait. We feel humiliated if someone had promised to turn up but failed to keep up his promise. We feel we are taken for granted! We would have made so many arrangements for the event, and get heartbroken if the event gets postponed or cancelled due to some reason or the other. Our trains run late often, buses never come on time, the maid does the same, the paper wala does the same, the puja in the temples do not start at the exact time as mentioned, you are kept waiting at banks, schools, music concerts, parties, public gatherings, everywhere!

We all hate to wait at the hospitals. We are even ready to overtake someone who is waiting to give their blood samples. We all expect to be seen immediately by the doctor when we reach the hospital. For us, our case is the most important one, but for the physician, it is just another case! We can’t afford to wait and start asking the nurse, when we shall be called. We are all ready to wait for hours to see a glimpse of our favorite actor or celebrity but cannot wait while the signal changes from Red to Green. Similarly, we don’t even feel bad of making someone wait for us, be it at a shopping mall, a movie theatre or for a meeting. Coming late and saying sorry is not the solution! BE ON TIME is the only solution. Even if people make fun of you for being there on time, don’t let it hurt you. Take it as a positive comment and keep maintaining it. It does not become right just because 999 individuals do it by being late and you alone are on time!

Ignore the comment if someone says that you are on time since you don’t have any other work! Whatever work you have on hand, turning up on time is a special characteristic. I have the highest respect for my doctor who always turns up 5 minutes before his schedule for his day! Similarly, it elates me when I see TT Rangarajan, emphasizing on time and you can correct your time in the watch after seeing him enter the hall. That’s what punctuality is!

I feel, the people who respect their time would definitely respect other’s time. Similarly, the ones who do not respect their time would not bother to keep the other person waiting!

  1. "Indian stretchable time" ... very true.... felt the same even today when people could not even wait for 5 more seconds in traffic signals.... they would have started 5 min earlier to go on time to their destination
