Our Generation

What's wrong with our generation? Something is seriously wrong somewhere. Young people are getting sick, suffering from illnesses that once were considered only for the old age.
Hospital queues are competing with shopping queues!
How many of us don't have back pain, headaches, tummy size increase and the commonest issues, weight gain and "STRESS"? I would say, very few.
More sophisticated gadgets have brought in laziness and less physical activity. We need a treadmill to walk with Nike shoes, have bottled water, sugar free tablets for coffee, tea, organic vegetables for our breakfast and lunch, cars to reach workplace, meetings with peers and bosses and lunch from dominos or pizzahut or full platter meals in ac cafeteria, evening snacks, return home by car, take rest in a couch in front of the television watching news, have dinner and retire to bed! come weekends, more laziness and order food from outside!
Working moms have double load and
Stay at home moms too have the pain, struggling with children and chores, we justify having maids for cleaning and sweeping, have washing machine for the clothes. Like our grand mother, we don't sit and make dosa batter in a grinding stone on the floor. Even for making chapati, we don't sit and knead the flour!
women are better when it comes to the diet! But for the fact that they need reputed dieticians to tell them ghee, rice, fruits and vegetables are good for health!
We rarely make greens, banana flower, banana stem, bitter gourd, sundaikkai, vepambu, etc as we don't have time to do and weekends are busier!
We don't mind having tea/coffee in paper cups even though we know it's not good for health. We are so lazy that we can't have a separate mug in office and clean it regularly! Best part is we need someone to remind us to have drinking water! But when we are super hungry, we don't mind grabbing a Samosa or a piece of cake or a triple layer sandwich.

The first fight of the day starts in the bed whether to wake up to the alarm or snooze it and sleep. We can wake up till 1am watching movies or Facebook or mobile but can't get up early in the mornings.

We are silently teaching the same to our kids. They learn by observing us. Junk foods like pizza, bakery items, chocolates, biscuits and noodles are introduced to them only by us! If we don't have them in the first place, we can convince them.
Small life style changes are the need of the hour before it's too late.
It all takes willingness, patience and a little effort. We can make our own fruit juices rather than the tetra packs! Home made juices are fresh and hygienic.
Vegetables and fruits are mandatory in every day's diet. Any fruit is OK, banana and guava has all the nutrients we need and is easily available! A couple of almonds and walnuts twice in a week. We all can have one day a week as no gadgets day and say NO to TV, iPad, mobile, etc..As a family, take a walk in the neighborhood or walk along the beach for a minimum 30 minutes.
Shut down the wifi by 10pm sharp and everyone should be in bed by 10:30. Making our own set of rules for the family and adhering to them is the first milestone.
Children play with mobiles, ipads and become obese and aren't physically fit and energetic. Like how our parents taught us, we need to tell them to economically use the resources like water, power and seldom waste these. Saying No to plastic inside the house, planting saplings or having a small balcony/terrace garden will involve everyone together and bonding will improve!
This makes a huge difference as we keep texting each other from bedroom and hall.
RELAX oneself before sleep by keeping calm. Don't keep your jaws tight and loosen them and the knees.
Change is inevitable and the one at the right time will make a huge difference to our lives and to the people who are important to us!
Sadly, Spending time to earn money and spending the earned money to earn good health is the irony of the day!
