The kids these days love the junk foods! Even though at home, a 3 course meal is available, they prefer outside food!
Those days, people wouldn't eat outside. They weren't allowed to. In fact, they would feel it as a mistake to go out and eat! With more money, came more laziness and easy ways to eat. The toil in the kitchen is never acknowledged and as the kids prefer outside food, moms have to just buy that! This is a vicious cycle with moms blaming the kids for not consuming what's made at home and kids passing on the blame to the moms for not making it as yummy as the restaurants!
Eating out occasionally is fine but if it turns out to be a habit, then we may have to pay the price! These junk foods aren't prepared freshly and we don't know how fresh the vegetables and other ingredients are. At home, we take utmost care to wash them and make fresh spices as it can take a toll on our health. The bread and chat items are all made from the white flour and even if its whole wheat as you may argue with me, loads of processed cheese and spices are added on to it! Do we know the best before date on the bread packet? Do we know when the cake was made??
Now, any processed food is not recommended by the doctors as it may lead us to obesity.
Our traditional foods are now recognized globally as the best foods and still we don't want them!
When they move to our idlis and dosas, we are shifting to their pizzas and burgers! Who's becoming cleverer is for the reader to decide.
All the latest research proves time and again that our ancestors were pioneers in every field and food is no exception!
Research says:
1. Microwave foods might cause Cancer
The foods lose their nutrients when reheated and such foods may cause obesity!
That's why our ancestors always emphasized on having food consumed within 4hrs of cooking!!
2. Pazhaya sadam has made the world turn towards it
This was our breakfast everyday in summers!!
3. Turmeric milk is being sold as yellow latte and is making a roaring business
Well, this was one of our paati vaidhyam when someone at home is affected with cold and cough!!
4. Our ancestors didn't goto the doctor and took care at home. Now a days,no paediatrician writes a prescription for common problems and ask the parents to wait till the problem subsides on its own!
There are so many traditional snacks which are so yummy but it needs time and efforts to try it! Morekali, arisi vadai, manogaram, chuyyan, appam are all yummy and kids would take a liking too and if observed keenly, our ancestors would have preferred jaggery to sugar! Jaggery has iron content, raw coconut has fibre, vada has ulundhu thats full of protein and so on..
Outside food have more salt and are spicy for it to live longer and if we get used to it, it may cause ulcers and gastric troubles.
Having sweet stalls and boli stalls in every street corner has only increased the number of diabetics which was unknown to our ancestors!
The latest trend is cholesterol and thyroid! What else would happen if we increase the in take of fine flour(maida),processed spices, noodles and oil fried foods in our daily diet??
Especially for young women, this is a bane. A girl has to undergo so much after a wedding and she needs whole lot of strength to confront all the physical and emotional happenings. Motherhood requires every ounce of the energy and for that we need to equip the girl. Lots of fresh fruits and vegetables are needed by the body and plenty of water will do the needful.
Let's go green at home too by saying NO to the outside food for a week at first and then having it for only occasions and adding more fresh fruits and vegetables in our daily diet.
This is dedicated to all those constantly demanding kids who make their mothers cry with returned lunch boxes and for those girls who are the future moms! Think about it and act wise..
